A new bubble wall emerges.....

Under the directorship of Richard "Popx Art" Baker, a new bubble wall is emerging on the exposed Funky Pumpkin wall in New Brighton. Popx is working alongside youth to create meaningful bubbles, plus anyone else is invited to add their own bubble. Brighton is becoming an artistic wonderland :)

And the wall came tumbling down........

Three years on from the quakes, and buildings in  Brighton continue to be demolished due to structural damage, taking with them some wonderful artwork. The demolition of one wall however, often exposes yet another wall waiting for an enthusiastic new artist to come along and weave their magic :)

Transitional Installations

Mural Madness was always about beautifying naked spaces in Brighton, and being temporary by nature. Earthquake recovery. As buildings came down, exposed walls were beautified with amazing artworks by talented artists. A second phase has now begun. More buildings are being demolished, taking their artworks with them. Sad, but exciting, as it means progress for Brighton. The good news is that new murals continue to appear, and artists continue to offer their talents. The evolution of Mural Madness continues!

Artist Profile: Richard 'Popx' Baker

Richard 'Popx' Baker is a local Christchurch artists who has contributed to many of the murals in and around Brighton, and Christchurch, and continues to do so. He is often found  adding finishing touches to walls that have been collaborated on by many artists.  Framing large murals in the form of the word LOVE is a favourite. Popx loves to chat with the local passersby, and is a fantastic role-model for youth. Thanks Popx for all your continued support!

Artists continue to beautify Brighton

As the months roll on by, artists can still be found around the Brighton Mall, finishing off , tiding up and creating new art pieces. Brighton has also be fortunate in that plants and gardens from the Ellerslie Flower Show have been donated to the area, further beautifying the mall.

Bubble Wall Nears Completion

With the support of Accessman, a scissorlift was bought on site last week to enable artists (namely Popx)  to complete the top section of the Bubble Wall. Now all that is required is the wonderful sponsor's logos to go up.

Buildings demolished - art revealed!

Many wonderful artists have spent literally hundreds of hours working away in an area which has become known as "The Quad." This area, in behind Couplands, was only seen by those who used the alley way beside the old chemist.
Over the last few weeks, the buildings in front of The Quad have been demolished due to structural damage caused by the quakes.  This is a reoccurring theme in the Brighton Mall. However, the demolition has revealed all the stunning artwork that was once hidden. Thank you to all the amazing artists who have been helping to rejuvenate Brighton with their artworks ;)

Mural Madness 2013

A new year has arrived, and many more artworks have appeared. Some shop owners have approached artists and put in requests, which is wonderful. May the murals continue to spread and evolve. Brighton is looking very colourful.  Mural Madness is currently seeking funding to allow the purchase of more supplies for artists.
